Imusa VICTORIA-85008 Review by Meredeth Shellnutt
The first one I received was broken. Back to Amazon it went. The 2nd, arrived in tact and works great. What else is there to say about a tortilla press? I find it a bit awkward having to use the plastic but I have learned to accept it.

I had the "jig" for about a month now and I put it through some workout. It is performing rather well so far. But here are some performance and design shortcomings:
1)Even with hard pressing (short of breaking the hinge pin) the tortilla is still too thick especially as a Taco shell; I have to use a rolling pin to finish the job!!! more labor and time consuming.
2) Although the hinge pin didn't break yet and although they provided you with a spare one, it looks flimsy to me and I am very careful not to push my luck by pressing hard on it.
3)It would be nice to:
a) glue rubber pads under the 4 corners of the base or a some sort of "felt pad" to the entire bottom to protect the working surface from being scratched by the cast iron.
b) include two round pieces of "heavy" plastic to put between the dough and the cast iron surface. Using "made for home" plastic wrapping material is a royal pain. Luckily we had a mattress delivered and I cut plastic pieces from its packaging.
Keep in mind, this brand is not the cheapest on the market.

I made this purchase with great trepidation on account the some bad reviews I read here but for me at least the product has far exceeded expectations. The press delivered to me was clean cast iron with no tinning, paint or malodorous oil coating; it was nice traditional cast iron unit consisting of well fitting and easily assembled parts packed in a clean box with clear instructions. I'm using masa herina mixed 2:1.5 with water with a pinch of salt and pressing the dough on the press between two sheets cut from freezer bags. So far I have gotten each tortilla perfectly formed on the first try and they are of the ideal thickness and they are of even thickness from side to side. The ease and speed of this unit over hand hand rolling tortillas is amazing to me. I get consistent perfectly round and easy to handle tortillas with a single effortless press of the handle. I am glad I got this eight inch press rather than the six inch press since I find no exertion is needed to press the tortillas given the weight of the plattens and the efficiency and smooth action of the lever handle.
